Growing up in Oshawa, Ontario I had to do a lot of searching to find myself. I was amongst the few kids of colour in the school and found myself always trying to fit in. It was in high school that I began to learn and embrace my culture and the traditions my parents passed on to me. I began educating those around me about the Indian culture by creating a series of paintings around Hindu deities.
Upon my acceptance to York University, I was first introduced to the issues that surround second generation Indians. Growing up in a fairly liberal household, I did not endure the restrictions and limitations that were placed on some of the South Asian students I studied with. This is where I began the series "East Meets West", as it served as a platform to introduce such issues between Canadian born Indians and their Indian born parents.
Graduating from York University in Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, I had the great pleasure of exhibiting my work throughout Canada and even landed my very own solo exhibit in New York City. In December of 2001, I was in a serious accident where I was hit by an 18-wheeler truck and my life took a turn. I am back now pursuing what I love most, "Colour, Texture and Paint!" I am continuously inspired by personal experiences as well as the stories and happenings around me.
